โ๐ Cricket Fielding Positions Summary
โ๐งค The Specialist
- โWicketkeeper: Stands behind the stumps. Catches balls missed by the batter, takes edge-catches, and performs stumpings.
โ๐ฏ Close-Catching Infield (Catching positions, usually 5-15 yards)
- โSlips (1st, 2nd, etc.): Lined up behind the batter on the off-side to catch fine nicks/edges.
- โGully: Squarer than the slips, on the off-side, for thicker edges.
- โShort Leg / Silly Point: Positions extremely close to the batter on the leg-side (Short Leg) or off-side (Silly Point), mainly for spin bowling catches.
โ๐ก๏ธ Inner Ring (Infield, usually within the 30-yard circle)
- โPoint: Square of the wicket on the off-side.
- โCover / Extra Cover: In front of the wicket on the off-side.
- โMid-Off / Mid-On: Straight down the pitch, near the bowler (Off on the off-side, On on the leg-side).
- โMid-Wicket: On the leg-side, roughly in line with the non-striker's end.
- โSquare Leg: Square of the wicket on the leg-side.
โ๐โโ๏ธ Outfield (Deep Fielders, near the boundary)
- โLong-Off / Long-On: Straight down the ground near the boundary.
- โDeep Mid-Wicket / Deep Cover / Deep Point: The inner-ring positions extended to the boundary.
- โThird Man: On the boundary behind the slips, often used to cut off edged shots.
- โFine Leg: On the boundary behind the wicket on the leg-side.
